Arts & Local Culture: South Bend Museum of Art

On November 30th, after our trip to the Catholic Worker House, Lauren and I relaxed in the heart of South Bend. Over coffee, we decided to explore the South Bend Museum of Art. I am not an art major (nor do I claim to know too much about paintings), but it was pretty cool to see what the museum had to offer. The museum featured a collection of paintings by a South Bend native and an exhibit about "The West" that featured an authentic stage coach.

I had been to the Snite a couple times; even though the SBMart's exhibits were a little outside of my interests, I really appreciated the display of local artists and historical references of the region in "The West."

One of the feature exhibits of the SBMart was a collection from Jason Cytacki. This South Bend native created his collection "Small Vistas, Big Myths" which will stay in South Bend until January 2015. Out of respect for the artist, I am not posting pictures of his paintings other than this one (which is pictured in his flyer).
