Museum of Biodiversity

"On campus I work at the Museum of Biodiversity located in the Jordan Hall of Science. It has been incredible to access this little known wonder at Notre Dame and see the thousands of diverse specimens in storage and on display. I have been assigned two projects in total. The first was to aquire multifocus microscope images of various plant specimens and then send them to a botanist working in San Diego on speciation. It was really cool to learn how to use the imaging technology (Leica Application Suite) there and to be a part of a larger project. Speakingof larger projects, I have recently been assigned to the sorting, stamping and barcoding of close to 10,000 plant species in the Greene-Nieuwland Herbrarium, the largest collection of its kind in Indiana. I now have the responsibility and priviledge to handle irreplacable specimens that are over 100 years old. Once again, this had made me feel like a pat of the world's larger scientific community."
