Faculty Rank: Associate Professional Specialist
James Creech is an academic advisor in the University of Notre Dame’s First Year of Studies (FYS) and holds the rank of associate professional specialist. Most of his students, including those who are a part of Notre Dame’s Glynn Family Honors Program, intend to pursue a major in the College of Science.
Creech also serves as the director of the FYS Peer Advising Program, which works with all 2,000+ Notre Dame first-year students by assigning each an upper-class mentor. These mentors are available to talk through decisions about majors, how to enhance study skills, and strategies for success at the college level.
Holding a B.A. in English and French from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Creech earned his M.A. and Ph.D. in English from Notre Dame. A specialist in 18th-century literature, he won an Outstanding Graduate Student Teaching Award from Notre Dame’s Kaneb Center for Teaching and Learning while pursuing his doctorate. He originally joined FYS as the Burke, Hofman, Kolman Postdoctoral Teaching Scholar.
