Hello, and welcome to my portfolio!
My name is Mary Mecca and I am a sophomore student of biochemistry at the University of Notre Dame. I am passionate about animals, music, literature, and small children, and despite my phobia of travel, I love meeting new people and embracing other cultures and communities.
My youth took place in both Northern Delaware and on the Sassafras River where I first became interested in aquatic biology. My interest has since grown into a calling toward cuttlefish research which I hope to take part in after graduation. In the meantime, I work in an ecology lab studying nitrogen cycling, and micro-organismal and algal communities.
I am tremendously excited to be a part of Appalachia this semester as a memeber of the Big Creek group. This service experience will be my first of its type and I doubt it will be like any other.
