Maryam Meechka Zomorodian

Faculty Rank: Assistant Professional Specialist

 

Maryam Meechka Zomorodian is an academic advisor in the University of Notre Dame’s First Year of Studies (FYS) and holds the rank of assistant professional specialist. She primarily advises students who intend to pursue a major in the College of Arts and Letters, Science, or the Mendoza College of Business.

 

Zomorodian received her B.A. in English literature from UCLA, her M.A. from the University of Chicago’s Program in the Humanities, and her Ph.D. in English literature from Notre Dame. While pursuing her doctorate, she won an Outstanding Graduate Student Teaching Award from Notre Dame’s Kaneb Center for Teaching and Learning.

 

Zomorodian’s research interests include 16th- and 17th-century literature, Shakespeare, and early modern history and historiography. Fluent in Persian, she is also interested in Iranian translations and adaptations of early modern English literature.

 

A concurrent faculty member in the University Writing Program (UWP), Zomorodian has taught classes not only for the UWP and First Year of Studies but also for the Department of English and the Department of Film, Television, and Theatre. Most recently, her courses have focused on cinematic and theatrical adaptations of Shakespearean texts.
