As a faculty member in the First Year of Studies (FYS), Deacon Tardy has a number of responsibilities beyond providing one-on-one advising to his students. These activities are meant to enhance the experience of Notre Dame undergraduates as well as the practice of academic advising more generally.
They currently include:
- Acting as the FYS liaison to Notre Dame’s Disability Services and Campus Ministry offices
- Serving as chaplain for the FYS faculty and staff as well as for the Balfour-Hesburgh Scholars Program, which helps promote intellectual engagement, leadership, research, and service opportunities for high-achieving students who are also members of groups that have been historically underrepresented in higher education
- Reviewing/summarizing the extensive literature on “spirituality and advising” to present findings in a workshop for FYS and other advisors in advance of preparing a more extensive proposal/presentation for national conferences
- Serving as the faculty advisor to three Notre Dame student groups: the Voices of Faith Gospel Choir (named Club of the Year in 2015), Perspectives, and The Wabruda
