Philosophy of Education

A university education should be seen as an opportunity to acquire new knowledge and aid in the development of lifelong learners. Academic, social, and personal experiences and reflections inside and outside of the classroom should be the compass that guides students throughout their educational journey. By taking a holistic approach to education, life becomes your classroom and learning your passion.

Advising Philosophy

"An excellent adviser does for students’ entire education what the excellent teacher does for a course: helps them order the pieces, put them together to make a coherent whole, so that a student experiences the curriculum not as a checklist of discrete, isolated pieces but instead as a unity, a composition of interrelated parts with multiple connections and relationships."

—Marc Lowenstein (in The Mentor: An Academic Advising Journal)

My goal as an advisor is to provide students with the framework to get the most out of their educational journey by connecting them with various institutional services, programs, and activities that promote academic excellence, unparalleled personal development, and exceptional service to the surrounding community. The combination of academics and community service allows students the opportunity to develop intellectually and socially inside and outside of the classroom, thus contributing to their overall body of knowledge.

My philosophy of education informs my philosophy of academic advising: Learning is a journey, enjoy the ride.
