As a faculty member in the First Year of Studies (FYS), Smith Ware has a number of responsibilities beyond providing one-on-one advising to her students. These activities are meant to enhance the experience of Notre Dame undergraduates as well as the practice of academic advising more generally.

They currently include:

• Co-directing the Balfour-Hesburgh Scholars Program
• Sitting on the ND Ignite initiative, Belonging Committee, Students of Concern Working Group, and Student Learning Task Force
• Serving as a member of the Moreau First Year Experience Course Design Team
