Course Description: Introduction to the UNIX operating system and the Fortran programming language with applications to engineering computing.
This course brought about more involvement than the typical one-credit class. Although classes were just once a week for an hour, the work necessary for the course took on the average of 4 to 5 hours a week. Although the main focus of the class was programming in Fortran in UNIX and the discovering pros and cons of the language, there were some other focuses of the class as well - such as Mathematica, C++, and Python. These languages were only briefly discussed, but the introduction to them created a solid foundation for my future if these languages are required. One of the major things that I enjoyed in the class was LaTeX. LaTeX allows a person to create beautiful PDF files which incorporated data from graphs and charts. Without a doubt, this skill will help me to communicate data findings, in an aesthetically pleasing and efficient way.
