Sean P. Wernert, Ph.D.

Faculty Rank: Full Professional Specialist

 

Sean Wernert is an academic advisor in the University of Notre Dame’s First Year of Studies (FYS) and holds the rank of Full Professional Specialist. His students include the majority of those first-years who intend to pursue a major in the School of Architecture, Department of Mathematics, Department of Physics, or Department of Biology as well as some student-athletes. 

 

In addition to his role as an advisor, Wernert serves as the director of ND Ignite. This FYS initiative is tasked with growing academic engagement for students outside of the classroom to enhance the first-year experience. It offers programming, events, and courses that connect students with each other, faculty, and community leaders.

 

Wernert teaches a wide range of FYS courses focusing on self-discernment, decision-making, current events, and research. He also serves as a concurrent faculty member in the College of Arts and Letters’ Education, Schooling, and Society interdisciplinary minor.

 

Holding a B.A. in English and Peace Studies from Xavier University, Wernert earned his M.Ed. in Higher Education from the University of Toledo, and earned his Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the University of Toledo in 2017. Before joining the FYS faculty, he was an academic advisor and admissions representative at Owens Community College in Toledo, Ohio.
